The sustainability of private universities in Africa increasingly depends on their ability to diversify revenue sources beyond tuition fees. Rising operational costs, inflation, technological transformation, declining purchasing power of parents, government regulatory policies, and increasing competition among universities have significantly affected the financial stability of many private higher education institutions in Nigeria. This paper develops a comprehensive Internal Revenue Generation (IGR) strategic framework for Igbinedion University Okada covering the period 2026–2031. Using strategic management principles, SWOT analysis, benchmarking of successful universities, and financial diversification models, the study identifies innovative income-generating opportunities capable of enhancing institutional sustainability. The proposed framework recommends the commercialization of academic assets, research commercialization, digital education, healthcare services, agricultural enterprises, consultancy, hospitality, publishing, technology incubation, alumni development, endowment management, international partnerships, renewable energy investments, and university-owned business enterprises. The study concludes that long-term institutional sustainability requires diversified, professionally managed, and technology-driven revenue streams rather than dependence on tuition fees. The framework provides practical policy directions for private universities across Africa seeking financial resilience and sustainable development.
