The rapid advancement of digital technologies has transformed the operations of modern university libraries, leading to the emergence of smart library systems that integrate automation, artificial intelligence, robotics, and unmanned aerial technologies. One emerging innovation is the use of drone technology to enhance service delivery, security management, and information accessibility within academic environments. This study examines the application of drone technology in smart university library services, focusing on its potential contributions to information delivery, security monitoring, facility management, and research support. The study adopts a conceptual and analytical approach supported by recent literature on smart libraries and emerging technologies in information management. The theoretical foundation of the study is anchored on Technology Acceptance Theory and Diffusion of Innovation Theory, which explain how new technologies are adopted in institutional environments. Findings from the reviewed literature indicate that drone technology can enhance library service efficiency through automated book delivery across campus, aerial surveillance for library security, environmental monitoring, and support for research activities such as mapping and data collection. However, challenges such as regulatory restrictions, privacy concerns, technical expertise requirements, and cost implications may hinder its adoption in university libraries. The study concludes that integrating drone technology into smart library systems can significantly improve library service delivery and information accessibility if proper policies, infrastructure, and professional training are established. The study recommends institutional investment in emerging technologies, policy development for drone usage, and capacity building for librarians in drone-enabled information services.
